Car production in the UK is booming; the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has forecast it will hit a record high of more than two million vehicles in 2017.

Jonathan Visscher from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) says the two companies that look particularly interesting from a growth perspective are Nissan, because of its new range of products, and Jaguar Landrover due to the company's exposure to emerging markets such as India and China.

In April UK new car registrations rose 8.2 percent to 176,820 units, marking the 26th consecutive month of growth.

Volumes for the year-to-date reached 864,942, an increase of 12.5 per cent. Figures have been boosted by improvements in economic conditions which are continuing to bolster consumer confidence.

The British car industry employs nearly 130,000 people and generates more than GBP 10 billion a year for the economy.
