BHP Billiton: a diamond in the mining sector?

Despite many analysts taking a negative view of the mining sector, with over-supply and slowing growth in China the major factors, Morningstar Research picks out BHP Billiton as a stock with a positive future.  

Senior Morningstar analyst Mark Taylor says: "One of the beauties of BHP, in this latest China-driven investment boom is that it didn’t go overboard in investing in growth capital. So it has managed to maintain a fairly conservative balance sheet. It isn't now in a position where anyone commodity is too important to it and if that commodity does badly it's going to suffer. It's past peak capital expenditure program."
